Special Education Teacher

• Plan and deliver high quality instruction to children with special needs based on the requirements set up in the student’s Individual Education Plan and minutes of required service. 
• Engage the general education teachers and support them through the process of continually gaining a deeper understanding of children’s unique learning needs and how to meet them.
• Communicate and collaborate with Legacy general education teachers in order to facilitate effective and successful mainstreaming of students with special needs, as well as providing the necessary accommodations and modifications to curriculum and instruction as designed in the Individual Education Plan.
• Provide up to date and accurate reports and maintain regular dialogue with parents/guardians in order to ensure the optimal learning environment for children with special needs.
• Implement regular assessments of student abilities and needs in order to develop and update Individual Education Plans consistent with the educational goals and mission of the school.
• Use effective classroom management and instructional techniques in order to provide a positive and productive learning environment.
• Collaborate with the current special education teacher and social worker in order to facilitate various specialized services at Legacy including related support services, as well as the implementation of general education interventions through the School Based Problem Solving process.
• Interface with Chicago Public Schools district personnel when necessary, in a manner that is compliant with Illinois State Law and CPS regulations associated with specialized services.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and a current, valid special education teaching certificate.
