I studied classical guitar with Jerry Garcia of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and performed in Oxford, England. I currently hold a bachelor’s degree in humanities. I am currently developing my own music program here at Legacy Charter School featuring recorder, guitar, djembes, ukulele and choral training. All scholars perform regularly in recitals at Legacy Circle where some of Legacy’s scholars even choose to solo as musicians on the instrument of their choice. The program’s focus is musical literacy and I use Standard, Tablature, Solfege and Kodaly notation systems to communicate the nuts and bolts of music to my scholars. Scholars are encouraged to develop their musicality and to see themselves not only as discerning consumers of entertainment media, but as fully empowered artists who have the right and the ability to use the tools and mediums of the arts to express themselves.
